Illinois mother seeks class action lawsuit in baby formula recall

An Illinois mother is seeking a class action lawsuit after the recall of millions of containers of Similac baby formula.

The woman’s lawsuit states that the powdered baby formula that Abbott Laboratories Inc. produced caused her child and many others to become sick. Abbott issued the recall on Sept. 22 after there were reports of beetle larvae being found inside the product.

Insects were then found in the plant where the formula was made in Illinois. The lawsuit states that the company found out about the insects previous to the recall and did not recall the product. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that the recalled formula could make the children have a stomach ache, but no long term damage is to be expected.
