Workers at correctional facility receive $1.5 million in workers’ compensation

Workers at the Menard Correctional Center located in southern Illinois have received more that $1.5 million after a settlement for injuries that were suffered to their hands, wrists and elbows.

The guards at the facility have said that the injuries were caused from the repetitive action of unlocking and locking cells.

Fifty-five workers have applied for compensation, this figure means that there is one for every ten workers. The prison was opened in 1878 and does not have electric locks, so the guards must crank a heavy wheel to open the cells.

If you or a loved one has been injured on the job, you may be able to receive compensation for your pain. Contact the Champaign workers compensation lawyers of Spiros Law, P.C., by calling (217) 328-2828 today.
