Two injured after collision with train and van

Two people from Champaign were injured after an accident when the van they were riding in collided with a train.

The accident occurred Monday night when the 18-year-old driver of the van approached the train tracks as the crossing arm began to go up. The lights were still on, but the driver began to go forward.

Just then, the arm began to go back down and then the van was struck by the train. Both people were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital where one person remains in the hospital and the other was treated and released. Police officials said that no passengers on the train were injured in the accident.

Train and car accidents can happen if there is confusion at the railroad crossing and cause serious injury, our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.
