Champaign man killed in bicycle accident

A Champaign man was killed in a bicycle pedestrian accident that occurred on Tuesday night.

According to police officials, the accident occurred at the intersection of Anthony Drive and Market Street when a 63-year-old driver of a Peterbilt truck struck the bicyclist. The driver did not know that he struck the bike, but saw multiple cars stop at the intersection so he also stopped.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, the 58-year-old bicyclist was semi-responsive and was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana in order to be treated. He was later pronounced dead. The accident is still under investigation and no citations have been handed out at this time.

Our deepest condolences are with the friends and family of the victim at this time.
