Three-car accident sends two to hospital

Two people were injured after a three-vehicle accident occurred on South Staley Road in Champaign.

According to police officials, the accident occurred at 5:40 p.m. when an 86-year-old man pulled out of his driveway in the path of a truck. The driver of the truck swerved to avoid hitting the man’s car, but the man still backed into the truck.

The impact pushed the truck into oncoming lanes of traffic where it was struck by a third car. The 51-year-old truck driver and the 86-year-old man were both transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in order to be treated. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured in the collision.
