I-74 Accidents Involved 11 Vehicles
Three motor vehicle accidents occurred within miles of each other on Interstate 74 near Mahomet on Tuesday of this week, involving eleven different vehicles. The final crash caused a seven car pile-up that affected traffic for the rest of the day. Only one man was injured in the accident due to his lack of a seatbelt.
A 26-year-old man from Bloomington was traveling east on Interstate 74 when he hit a stopped or slowed vehicle. Another crash a mile down the road caused traffic to build, resulting in a sudden conglomeration of stopped vehicles.
The Bloomington man, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle. The white truck he was driving continued to smash into six other vehicles before stopping due to hitting a semitrailer. The six drivers of the struck vehicles did not report any injuries.
The truck driver from Bloomington was transported to a local hospital by helicopter due to serious injuries. He is reported to be in critical condition. Several other drivers injured in earlier accidents on I-74 that day were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Two of the injured individuals were semi-truck drivers who caused an accident earlier in the morning.
