Damages are the monetary measure given to compensate for physical or emotional harm a plaintiff has suffered because of a defendant’s decisions and actions. Damages are separate from the costs associated with court and legal fees. The intention with awarding damages is to return the victim to the state he or she was at before the injury or accident.
