School bus, minivan involved in accident

One man was sent to the hospital after a three-vehicle accident in Urbana. The accident occurred outside of Urbana Middle School and involved a car, a school bus carrying children, and a minivan.

According to the police, the accident occurred when a 54-year-old man was driving down Vine Street and he tried to pass a car driven by a 41-year-old man. The bus hit the car and pushed it forward. The bus then went around the car and struck another van multiple times.

There were eight children on the bus and the bus driver had no explanation for the accident. He was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. No children were injured in the accident, but the second driver was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
