Illinois-based company recalls salmon product

An Illinois-based company, Vita Food Products, has now announced the voluntary recall of smoked salmon products after it was determined that the batch could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The number of recalled packages totals to 8,088 packs of the “Premium Sliced Smoked Atlantic Nova Salmon” that have the recall date of Dec. 15, 2011.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes food poisoning with symptoms of fever, stiffness, severe headache, nausea, and diarrhea. The salmon was sold at Meijer, Publix, Winn-Dixie and Safeway.
