Man injured in Atwood construction accident

One worker was injured after a construction accident occurred when he fell through the roof of the Atwood-Hammond Public Library.

According to officials with the Atwood Fire Protection District, the accident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. when construction workers were attempting to replace a roof that had a big skylight in it.

The skylight was open at the time and the man somehow fell head first onto the ground below. When emergency crews arrived, the man was conscious and they airlifted him the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana in order to be treated. The library was closed after the accident so officials could clear the scene and investigate.
