Car Crashes Through Local Shell Station
A vehicle crashed through the front doors of a Yorkville Shell station at the corner of routes 47 and 34 around lunchtime on Monday, Feb. 18.
Yorkville Deputy Chief of Police Larry Hilt said the driver was an elderly man who claimed the accelerator of the car got stuck. The 76-year-old driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries and no one in the store was injured either.
Surveillance video from the Shell station shows the driver pulled into an empty parking space in front of the store before the vehicle lunged forward, shattering the front doors of the building. The vehicle damaged racks and an automated teller machine before coming to a stop when it struck the front counters.
Officers towed the vehicle from the scene because of the stuck accelerator. Police has not yet identified the driver and no criminal charges have been filed against him.
