Student killed in UI campus crash
A junior at the University of Illinois was hit by a truck and killed while walking on campus with another student on Wednesday, October 10.
Mimi Liu was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency room at 10:23 a.m., shortly after the accident. The second student hit by the truck, junior Spandana Mantravadi, stayed at the hospital with police while she was treated for her non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the incident. The current primary suspect, Willie Craft, has received past citations for driving without a license among other offenses. He was questioned by police and released.
Although unconfirmed, there is suspicion that Craft suffers from a medical condition.
