Student killed in UI campus crash

A junior at the University of Illinois was hit by a truck and killed while walking on campus with another student on Wednesday, October 10.

Mimi Liu was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency room at 10:23 a.m., shortly after the accident. The second student hit by the truck, junior Spandana Mantravadi, stayed at the hospital with police while she was treated for her non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the incident. The current primary suspect, Willie Craft, has received past citations for driving without a license among other offenses. He was questioned by police and released.

Although unconfirmed, there is suspicion that Craft suffers from a medical condition.
