Former Illinois policeman charged with fraud
Michael Avila, a former Crystal Lake police officer, was arraigned on Thursday, February 27 after being charged with insurance fraud, workers’ compensation fraud, theft of government property, and theft by deception.
Avila falsely claimed that the nature of his wrist injury disabled him from working. He was videotaped lifting weights at the police station in Crystal Lake only one a month after incurring the wrist injury. More videotaped evidence revealed Avila working as a personal trainer months after he claimed his initial wrist injury had become worse.
Though some people falsely claim benefits, many people are in need of the financial assistance that workers’ compensation provides. The attorneys at Spiros Law, P.C., represent Illinois injury victims. Call 217-328-2828 to learn more about what we can do for you.
