17 year old Normal West High School student dies from injuries sustained in a car accident

Authorities say a seventeen-year-old student from Normal West High School has died from injuries that she sustained in a car accident this week. The student was a member of the school’s softball team. The accident occurred on Wednesday night when a 23-year-old driver in a pickup truck allegedly ran a red light at U.S. 150 and Mitsubishi Motorway and collided with her car.

The victim, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was in critical condition when she was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday night.

Illinois State Police cited the driver of the pickup truck for disobeying a traffic control device, speeding, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, as well as failure to wear a seatbelt.
