Westville motorcyclist hospitalized after crash

A crash on Illinois 1 Wednesday morning sent one Westville man to the hospital.

State police investigating the crash report that around 11 AM on Wednesday, a pedestrian ran out onto Illinois 1 in front of a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling north between Danville and Belgium, near Greenwood Avenue. The 60-year-old driver from Westville slammed on his brakes to avoid the pedestrian.

When the pickup truck unexpectedly stopped, the 28-year-old motorcyclist traveling behind had to swerve to avoid a collision. However, he clipped the rear end of the truck, went into the southbound lanes, and tipped over. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. His condition is unknown.

The pedestrian was issued citations for failure to yield to traffic, crossing at an area other than a crosswalk, and walking improperly on the roadway.
