Utility Truck Rear-Ended By Simi

According to an Illinois police report, a crash occurred on Wednesday, October 17th on a rural road near the Douglas-Coles county line southwest of Hindsboro. The report details that a 43-year-old Mattoon man was driving an Illinois Department of Transportation utility truck south on Illinois 130 about a mile south of Illinois 133. He slowed down and signaled that he intended to turn east onto a farm-field access road. At the same time, a semi-truck, driven by a 42-year-old man from Evansville, Ind., that was also headed southbound failed to reduce speed and collided with the IDOT truck. The collision caused the IDOT truck to spin 180 degrees and land in a ditch.

The report did not name either driver but did mention that the accident resulted to injuries to both parties and caused one person to be hospitalized. The driver of the IDOT truck was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver reported minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Both parties were wearing seatbelts.

According to the report, the semi driver has been ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
