Urbana Women Killed After Being Hit By Truck
Urbana Police responded to a fatal accident Thursday afternoon after a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck at a crosswalk. According to police, the accident occurred at the intersection of Main and Vine Streets. The pedestrian was crossing the intersection from south to north and was hit by the pickup truck as it was turning eastbound on Main Street. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified the pedestrian as Shelly E. Taylor, 49, of Urbana. She was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. Thursday at Carle Foundation Hospital. She was in the crosswalk when the accident occurred.
The driver of the pickup truck, whose identity is currently being withheld by police, was interviewed by detectives soon after the accident occurred and was cited and released. Police said there is currently no indication of whether or not the driver was either under the influence of drugs or alcohol or using a cellphone at the time of the accident.
