Bicyclist seriously injured in hit-and-run, savoy man arrested
On Monday, April 22, police were called around 8:15 p.m. after a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle in the 1600 block of High Cross Road. According to witnesses, three bicyclists were riding in a single-file line traveling south on High Cross Road when a vehicle struck the bicyclist that was last in line from behind. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to leave the scene after striking the individual.
The cyclist hit was identified as Jonathan Parrish, 28, of Urbana. An Airlife helicopter was called to the scene, and the road was closed temporarily for emergency personnel to work. The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition and his injuries include broken ribs, a broken nose, swelling on the brain, and he recently had a chest tube inserted. With that said, he is expected to survive his injuries.
Witnesses were able to give a description of the vehicle and its license plate, and Illinois state troopers were able to locate the car in the 800 block of Hartwell Court in Savoy. There, Mitchell J. Snodgrass, 22, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
