Farmer Finds Car in Ditch

A farmer in the Paxton, IL area was harvesting corn when he noticed a vehicle in a ditch. The farmer approached the vehicle and discovered there were two people who had passed away. It is believed that the car had crashed and both the driver and passenger passed away sometime the previous evening. The car is believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, overcorrected, and ultimately landed in a ditch just east of a bridge near the intersection of county roads 150 North and 1500 East. The occupants were pronounced dead by the coroner’s office when they arrived at the scene. The occupants were a 19 female from Rantoul, and a 29 male from Chicago. Neither the driver of the passenger were wearing seatbelts. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday at the Champaign County morgue to determine the cause of death.

These types of crashes are unfortunate and sadly avoidable. It is important to remember to always wear a seatbelt and to follow posted speed limits and to always drive with caution.
