Pedestrian Hit in Crosswalk Passes Away
This past Friday afternoon around 6 p.m., a Champaign woman was struck and killed by a truck as she was crossing the street. The victim was identified as a 56-year-old woman. Reportedly, she was walking her dog through the crosswalk on University when a man driving a Dodge Ram southbound on Russell turned left and hit her.
According to police, the man driving the Dodge Ram cooperated with officials and did not show signs of impairment, but he was ticketed with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The collision caused suffered a severe brain injury to the woman and, she was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital where she later passed away due to her injuries.
