Bicyclist Struck by a Semi-truck in Mahomet

Following a collision between a bicyclist and a semi-truck that took place in the morning of Friday, April 3, Illinois 47 north of Mahomet was shut down. After dealing with the crash, Mahomet police chief Mike Metzler reported that the area has since been reopened.

According to Illinois State Police Trooper Mindy Carroll, the collision occurred around Illinois 47 and County Road 2400 N. Officials at the scene of the crash included state police, secretary of state police, Corn Belt Fire Protection District, and Mahomet police. Additional information surrounding the details of the incident have yet to be released.

As the weather becomes warmer, there will be an increase of bicyclists on the sidewalks and roadways. It is important for both bicyclists and drivers to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Bicyclists should wear bright clothing, helmets, and obey the appropriate traffic laws when riding their bike on the road. Additionally, drivers should be conscious of cyclists on the road and maintain a safe distance.
