Semi-Truck Hit and Run
Over the weekend it was reported that two bicyclists were struck by a semi-truck. The collision occurred on slightly west of Mahomet on 150 about a half-mile east of County Road 125 East. According to police, three bicyclists were traveling westbound when a semi-truck approached from behind and struck two of the three bicyclists. The driver of the semi did not stop and instead left the scene. Police are not on the lookout for the semi-truck, it is reported to be white and silver and suspected to have some damage to the passenger side. The collision caused serious injury to one of the bicyclists and non-life-threatening injuries to the other bicyclists who was struck.
It is important to always stay focused on the road and your surroundings when driving. It is especially important to stay on the lookout for pedestrians and bicyclists as they are so vulnerable to injury. These types of incidents are devastating especially when they are avoidable and when the negligent party tries to avoid responsibility by fleeing the scene of an accident.
