Family of Six Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash

Jestin M. Covington, 31, and his five children were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a 2-vehicle crash. The children were between the ages of one and ten.

The crash occurred around 3 AM on Thursday, July 5th on Interstate 74 between Prospect Avenue and the Interstate 57 interchange.

Covington was driving a silver 2002 Dodge van east on Interstate 74 around mile marker 180 when John J. Evans, 31, of Shelbyville, Indiana approached from behind in a yellow semitrailer truck. Evans failed to slow down as he approached Covington, who was traveling slower, and ended up striking his vehicle from behind. Covington’s van hit median cable wires and rolled multiple times.

Neither Evans nor his passenger sustained any injuries. Evans received a ticket for failing to slow down, causing the accident.
