Local woman hospitalized after two-car collision

A two car collision in western Champaign County led to the injury of a local woman and young man. The two drivers were driving in opposing directions and collided at the intersection of County Road 1400 N and 300 E.

The Champaign County sheriff’s department reported that the woman was taken by helicopter to the Carle Foundation Hospital early Thursday morning to treat facial injuries. At this time, no tickets have been issued, although the investigation is on-going.

Illinois school bus driver killed in crash

An Illinois school bus driver was killed in a crash early Thursday morning.

According to Clark County officials, the accident occurred on 8 a.m. when the bus was involved in an accident at the intersection of Route 40 and Route 1. The 55-year-old bus driver died of injuries suffered in an cardiac attack that caused the bus crash.

The students were all checked out by the medical staff before being transported to North Elementary. There were 23 students on the bus ranging from kindergarten to high school aged.

Some of the students were shaken up in the accident and went home with their parents, but there were no serious injuries reported. The superintendent of the school was pleased with how the staff responded to the accident.

Manteno man fights to have stop sign at intersection

A man from Manteno is fighting to get stop signs  installed at an intersection near his house after a number of accidents have occurred there.

A recent crash that injured his neighbor’s daughter and four others has been the last straw. The man  has lived in the area for 15 years and thinks that the dangerous intersection will be fixed if stop signs are put into place.

A 15-year-old girl was extricated from the vehicle as a result of the accident and hospitalized for a fractured pelvis.

Two injured after collision with train and van

Two people from Champaign were injured after an accident when the van they were riding in collided with a train.

The accident occurred Monday night when the 18-year-old driver of the van approached the train tracks as the crossing arm began to go up. The lights were still on, but the driver began to go forward.

Just then, the arm began to go back down and then the van was struck by the train. Both people were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital where one person remains in the hospital and the other was treated and released. Police officials said that no passengers on the train were injured in the accident.

Nine injured in Urbana crash on I-74

A three-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon left nine people injured.

According to a state police report, the accident occurred when a 25-year-old man was driving westbound down Lincoln Avenue in Urbana and he lost control of his vehicle and struck the concrete wall.

The car was then disabled in one of the lanes on Interstate 74 and was struck by another vehicle. The second vehicle was struck by another vehicle. Nine people were sent to Carle Foundation Hospital where they were all treated and released.

Woman killed in one-car rollover accident

A 25-year-old woman from San Jose was killed in a one-car accident on Saturday.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on U.S. 136 when the woman went off the south side of the road and tried to over-correct her vehicle, but this made it flip and roll over.

The car finally came to a rest in a plowed field on the side of the road. The woman was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the accident and she was later pronounced dead of injuries sustained.

Two injured in Champaign motorcycle accident

A motorcycle and car accident in Champaign on Saturday left two people seriously injured.

According to officials, the accident occurred on Kirbey Avenue and Grandview Drive when a car attempted to make a turn and turned in front of a motorcycle. The man and woman that were on the motorcycle were both seriously injured.

They were both transported to the hospital where they will be kept overnight. The driver of the car was ticketed for failure to yield and was uninjured in the accident. The roadway was closed for almost three hours while authorities investigated.

Three killed in pickup truck rollover accident

Three people were killed in truck accident after the driver of the pickup truck lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll, hit a telephone pole and collide with a house in Farm Ridge Township.

According to La Salle County authorities, the 49-year-old driver of the vehicle and two of his five passengers were killed in the collision. The three other people in the car were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and the county along with the state police are working together to find answers. No one was in the home when the truck crashed into it.
