Police are continuing to investigate a train accident that occurred Saturday night in Peotone.
According to the Peotone Police Department, the accident occurred at the Canadian National Railroad track at 10:30 p.m. The details of the fatal accident are unclear at this time, but a 16-year-old was pronounced dead as a result.
The freight line was en route to Memphis when the accident occurred and the service was stopped for over three hours while emergency crews cleared the scene and police investigated.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the family of a young man that was killed in “car surfing” stunt earlier this year.
According to the lawsuit, the man was killed on June 30 as he was sitting on top of a car while in a Wal-Mart parking lot and the driver of the car accelerated suddenly. After the car accelerated, the man was thrown from the roof.
The 20-year-old man died two days later of injuries sustained. The 19-year-old driver was charged with reckless homicide as a result of the accident. The lawsuit states that the driver made the sharp turn too recklessly and too fast.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against the Jamaica school district and Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative after an accident claimed the life of one woman.
According to the lawsuit, the school district and electric company were negligent and caused the death of a 36-year-old St. Joseph woman. The incident occurred on August 28 when a transformer pole fell and struck her.
The woman, also the cheerleading coach for the high school, was pronounced dead at the scene. The lawsuit is requesting more than $50,000 in damages. The lawsuit states that the power pole was more than 50 years old and the transformer was deteriorated.
