Four Local Nursing Homes Fined for Violations
Four local nursing homes in Champaign and Piatt County were fined from violations that took place from July through September. The nursing homes that received charges include; Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana, Champaign-Urbana Nursing and Rehab in Savoy, Illini Heritage Rehab and Health in Champaign, and Bement Health Care Center, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The largest of the four fines, $25,000, was assigned to both the Savoy and Bement facilities for type-A violations. Champaign-Urbana Nursing and Rehab failed to provide special dietary needs to a resident, resulting in the resident choking to death on food. Bement Health Care Center failed to keep a resident safe while riding in the facility’s van, resulting in the resident suffering from broken bones, cuts, and a head injury.
Illini Heritage Rehab and Health was fined $2,200 for a type-B violation, as they failed to implement pressure-relieving interventions, failed to measure wounds weekly, failed to report a development of and changes in a pressure ulcer condition to a doctor, and failed to request pressure ulcer treatment orders for one of three residents.
The Champaign County Nursing Home was fined $500 for a type-C violation, as they didn’t meet minimum staffing requirements for two days in July.
Champaign-Urbana Nursing and Rehab, Bement Health Care Center, and Illini Heritage Rehab and Health all received double fines because the violations were in the high-risk category. You can find more information about this story on The News Gazette.
When making the decision to put a loved one in a nursing home, we want to ensure that they will be treated with high-quality care and respect. Regardless of our intentions, sometimes innocent residents experience nursing home abuse, and the sad reality is that far too many individuals are subjected to abuse and neglect in care facilities across the country.
Unfortunately, in many cases, nursing home abuse goes unreported or unnoticed. This is because the signs may not always be evident, or the victim is scared to bring attention to the situation.
