Eastern Illinois Foodbank – Jump Into Action!

The Spiros Law team had the privilege of sponsoring and attending a volunteer session for The Eastern Illinois Foodbank hosted a “Jump into Action” First Responders Repack where local companies paired up with first responders to raise money and volunteer repacking meals to be donated to local food pantry’s. Spiros Law joined the Champaign Police Department. During our volunteer shift, we competed against the Urbana Police Department and while it was a competition, there were no losers because we collectively packed over 1,900 meals during our shift! We then continued to raise money throughout the shift and in total, through volunteer time and donations raised by the Champaign Police Department and Spiros Law, we helped provide 12,536 meals. The event, in total, raised 60,425 meals for those who need it in our community!

EIF works to alleviate hunger in our communities by being a primary food source for programs working to feed the hungry in eastern Illinois. The foodbank acquires millions of pounds of food and grocery product through purchase or donation, repackages the product, and then distributes it to their network of feeding programs. Through their partnership with EIF, emergency food programs are able to save money each year, which allows them to focus their efforts towards effectively working to alleviate hunger in the community.

EIF’s recent volunteering event highlights the importance of giving back to our communities, especially during the holiday season. The holidays are generally regarded as the “most wonderful time of year,” but it is easily forgotten that for some people, this is not the case. The holidays can often be stressful for individuals who are unable to provide for themselves or their families. Giving back during the holidays can extremely impactful, and it is a large part of how our society functions, which represents the true spirit of the holiday season. Some other ways to give back in your community can include:

  • Sending a letter/card to a child in the hospital
  • Donating items to local shelters
  • Organizing a food drive at the office
  • Donating clothing
  • Adopting a child to buy gifts for/Toys for Tots
  • Visiting a nursing home
  • Handing out bags of snacks and essentials to the homeless

At Spiros Law, P.C., we recognize the importance of giving back and encourage people to consider doing so during the holiday season. If you would like to donate to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank your contribution will help ease food insecurities to those who need it most in our community. Even the smallest donation goes a long way to helping families in need because just $1 equals 5 whole meals!
