Danville Hotel Possibly Tied to Legionnaires’ Disease Infections

Three individuals who stayed at a Danville-area hotel have contracted Legionnaires’ disease. None of the individuals were Danville locals. The illness, while not contagious, can be fatal.

Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by a bacterial infection in the lungs. When contaminated water mist or vapor is inhaled, the bacteria can lead to this serious illness. The hotel’s water systems are being tested for the bacteria, but the tests won’t be ready for two weeks.

Illinois generally has around 300 cases of Legionairres’ disease reported every year.

Hotels, restaurants, and medical offices have a responsibility to keep their premises sterile and safe.
