Doctors continue to research brain cooling for victims of brain injury

Doctors and researchers at the University of Illinois College of Medicine are conducting a study on the effect that cooling has on the brain in the cases of people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.

Doctors noticed that people tend to do better in the morning when their temperatures are lower, than they do at night when they begin to rise. One challenge that arises when cooling the brain is that you do not want to cool the body too much because this could negatively affect other organs.

Doctors then began to collaborate with NASA scientists to use a cooling helmet that uses NASA spin-off technology. The doctors are currently studying the cooling head cover on head injury patients.
