I have an offer from an insurance company, so why would I need a lawyer?

Make no mistake; the insurance company wants you to think that you are keeping more money for yourself when you do not hire an attorney. An agent for the insurer may even tell you that you do not need to worry about hiring a lawyer.

The problem with this line of thinking is that the insurance company has likely presented you with a lowball offer that is nowhere near what you are actually entitled to. Even when a lump sum settlement sounds like a large amount of money, you might learn rather quickly that the amount they offered you will not cover all the costs you have, or will likely incur due to the accident.

Many victims have to pay the difference, and their settlement will prevent them from being able to recover any additional compensation.

You could try to negotiate a settlement on your own, but most people are not familiar with the process, and there is a tremendous risk in doing so without an attorney. A lawyer is going to be able to look at your case and know right away exactly what your claim is worth. Your lawyer will seek the maximum amount of compensation possible to ensure that you don’t struggle to pay your bills or rebuild your life.

The insurance company is only concerned about its bottom line, so you should never place your faith in the insurance company’s representatives. Insurers typically offer settlements to resolve claims quickly, but these offers are typically far less than what you actually need or deserve.

You are going to want to have a lawyer who can help prove that you were hurt as a result of negligence. They will collect all of the evidence needed through an exhaustive independent investigation. A lawyer is going to know how to negotiate a full and fair settlement to your case that can actually cover all of your past, present, and future expenses.

When an insurance company proves unwilling to provide appropriate compensation, then the attorney can file a lawsuit to try your case in court. Most insurers will do anything to avoid having to take a case to trial, which is why many settlements are agreed to right before a trial is set to begin. You will give yourself a far better chance of recovering a maximum award when you are working with an experienced personal injury lawyer.

Keep in mind that you only have a limited amount of time to take legal action, so it is always important for you to get an attorney involved as soon as possible in your case.
