A three vehicle accident that occurred on I-74 this morning caused an unidentified number of people to sustain serious injuries, according to police, and has shut down both east I-74 lanes and one westbound lane in eastern Champaign County for the morning and part of the afternoon.
The accident happened around 6:32 a.m. this morning near the Ogden exit on I-74 when a westbound semi crossed the median and struck another semi and an Illinois Department of Transportation truck. According to John Dixon, a photo editor at the News-Gazette, “the front of the pickup truck is almost unrecognizable. The cabs of the two semis are nose to nose. The cabs are crumpled all the way to the windshields.”
