On Tuesday October 29, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce released a report criticizing the state’s bias towards laborers when they file workers compensation claims. The report also measured how this bias affects the economic stability of Illinois.
In a report titled “The Impact of Judicial Activism in Illinois: Worker’s Compensation Rulings from the Employer’s Perspective,” the chamber talked about 19 worker compensation cases that have broadened the coverage of employer liability. This increased employer liability included a 7.5% increase in disability payments for injured workers.
The report also noted that, between 2005 and 2010, Illinois worker’s compensation insurance premium rates have risen by nearly 17% while all across the country average rates have decreased by 19%.
