Make a Difference Day 2019

If you are looking for a way to give back to the community you live and/or work in, we suggest celebrating Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 26, 2019. This holiday, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of October each year, emphasizes community service and volunteerism. Across the United States each year on this holiday, people come together to volunteer and complete community service projects for charitable organizations and people in need. This holiday was founded in 1922 and has been celebrated ever since people realized it was a perfect opportunity to do something good for their communities and members of it that are in need.

For people that are interested in observing this holiday, there are many options available to perform some type of service for their community. Previous activities have involved raising money for charities, building community playgrounds and cleaning local parks. Within our own community of Champaign, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and give back by volunteering at some local organizations, including:

  • Salt & Light Grocery and Thrift Stores
  • Champaign Public Library: Group Volunteer Projects – Teen After-School Program Volunteers
  • Crisis Nursery
  • Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County
  • Courage Connection
  • Adopt-A-Highway
  • Meals on Wheels

These organizations make it simple to volunteer and give back to the community, as well as those that are in need. Our team at Spiros Law, P.C. recognizes the importance of volunteerism and makes it a goal to give back as much as possible. All three of our offices are involved with local organizations and regularly participate in events. On a regular basis work with Adopt-A-Highway, where we partner with IDOT to pick up trash and litter along two-mile sections of highways in Champaign and Danville. Additionally, we often volunteer with Meals on Wheels, where we deliver meals to seniors within the community. Volunteering not only improves the community, but it also provides those volunteering with a sense of accomplishment and can be a great way to meet new people. We encourage people to participate in Make a Difference Day this year to volunteer and make the community a better place to live and work in.
