OSHA fined roofing company for unsafe working conditions

The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently fined Indiana-based roofing company Five Star Commercial Roofing Inc. $49,000 due to  unsafe working conditions at a site in Bartonville, the Journal Star reported on May 1.

According to an investigation conducted by OSHA, Five Star’s employees were found to have been working almost 30 feet above the ground without the necessary fall protection equipment, meriting the company a willful safety violation. OSHA spokesman Scott Allen said that construction-related falls are one of the most preventable accidents, and Five Star would only need to pay a few hundred dollars for re-usable equipment like harnesses and safety lines.

Five Star received previous citations from OSHA for safety violations in their other construction sites and buildings in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.
