Piatt County Crash on I-72

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police reported that a two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 72 traveling westbound at milepost 172 in Piatt County. According to the report, a 2004 White Pontiac Grand Prix

was traveling eastbound on I-72 at milepost 172. The Pontiac Grand Prix began to lose control due to rain on the roadway and skid out of control. It drove through the center median and struck the front of a 1998 Yellow Volvo Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer that was traveling westbound on I-72 at milepost 172. The driver of the Grand Prix, a 35-year-old male from Decatur, IL, was transported to an area hospital with injuries. There was a 25-year-old female from Chicago, IL riding as a passenger in the Grand Prix who was also transported to the hospital. The drive of the Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer, a 56-year-old male from Elmhurst, IL, was not transported to the hospital. As a result of the investigation, the driver of the Grand Prix was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle as well as a charge of Possession of Open Alcohol by Passenger.
