Righter bill seeks stricter workers’ comp laws for better business

Illinois state senator Dale Righter (Republican of Mattoon) filed a bill that seeks to add “primary causation” to the Illinois workers’ compensation law in a bid to help the state become attractive to financial investment from the business sector, generate employment opportunities for its residents, and put an end to fraud and abuse, the Daily Republican Register reported on February 24.

Senate Bill 846 would ensure that an employer’s workers’ compensation insurance company could only be held liable to pay a workers’ compensation claim if the claimant’s injury was directly and clearly caused by a workplace accident.

Righter said Illinois has yet to reach its full potential due to workers moving to other states for better employment opportunities and business establishments choosing to invest in other states.
