Semi-truck Strikes Pedestrian

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the details surrounding a man that was struck by a semi-trailer tractor truck in the early morning on Friday, April 3. The man, who was on foot, was reportedly conscious after the accident that occurred at 5 a.m. and was then taken to the hospital to assess his injuries.

The incident took place outside Rush Truck Center, a business that sells new and used semis, located on 309 W. Hensley Road in Champaign. Lt. Curt Apperson said that details of the accident would not be available until the deputy’s report had been finalized.

Accidents, such as this recent one in Champaign, can easily be prevented by both pedestrians and drivers. While the details concerning this specific incident are not yet clear, drivers should be alert of any pedestrians in the road or close to it at all times. It can only take a second for a driver to become distracted, take their eyes off the road, and collide with another vehicle or in this case, a person.
