A head-on car accident between a sport utility vehicle and a semi-trailer in rural Champaign on June 5th at approximately 6:05 p.m. has left one man dead.
Richard A. Relliford III, a 20-year-old man from Champaign, Illinois, was driving his SUV north on Staley Road when he crossed into the southbound lane and struck a semi-trailer headed in the opposite direction. Relliford suffered severe injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead on the scene after emergency personnel arrived.
The driver of the semi-trailer, Donald L. Shank, did not suffer injuries in the accident but was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital after the accident where he underwent a voluntary blood draw.
