According to a police deputy in Champaign, the accident occurred when a 51-year-old woman was crossing Prospect Avenue and she was struck by a car that was turning left from another street.

The driver stated that they did not see a pedestrian in the crosswalk because it was dark and rainy at the time. Also, the pedestrian signal was allegeldy not lit up even though the victim stated that she hit the button before crossing the street.

She was conscious when emergency crews arrived at the scene to transport her to a hospital in Champaign. No tickets have been issued at this time and the investigation remains open.
